// Trans Life in the South
Though the South has a long history of mutual aid and racial justice organizing, this episode explores some of the unique barriers faced by trans people, especially BIPOC trans women and femmes. In the report Grapevine: A Southern Trans Report, conducted by the Transgender Law Project and Southerners on New Ground, 58% of trans women and femmes reported experiencing high levels of violence, and 52% of respondants of color reported experiencing police violence.
Listen to Kayla and Mariah talk about their experiences living in the south as black trans women.
Kayla talks about how her identity as an activist is tied to her identity as southerner.
Mariah discusses her deep connection to New Orleans, despite the challenges she and other trans people and people of color face in there.
